In 1982 the lawyer Joaquín Rebolledo took charge of his family property in A Rúa de Valdeorras. He regrafted the vines mainly with Godello and Mencía, and invested a good amount in top-notch equipment. In 1993, his Godello became the first Galician wine to win the prestigious “Zarcillo de Oro” (Golden Tendril Award). Nowadays, the estate includes almost 100 acres of vineyards planted over slate, granite and sand in steep slopes following the Sil river. Their cellar is worth a visit: it is located at short distance from the ancient Roman auriferous sites that gave name to Valdeorras (The Valley of Gold).
