El Outsider

Winery: Vinos en Voz Baja
Region: Rioja

Red Wine

Variety: 80% Red Garnacha and 20% Pasera

Production
Starting from an idea of a young and cheerful wine, each harvests an item of grapes chosen to make this wine with a mixture of Red Garnacha and Pasera (White). Stored in Classic Demijhon of this region, in the past, these were the glass bottles to buy wine from cooperatives or the small farmers. It has this link with the typical old winegrowers’ wine. The preservation in the demijohn is very good and sulfites are not added in the elaboration.

Tasting Notes
It is a juicy red wine with intense aromas of ripe red fruit and pleasant balsamic notes. On the palate, it is a sweet, intense wine with slightly astringent tannins.

Alcohol: 14% by Vol

Tim Atkins:

"El Outsider - one for Albert Camus fans perhaps - is a blend of Garnacha and 20% Calagraño and Tempranillo, sourced from a 0.22-hectare plot in the Planas Altas sub-zone of Alfaro. Entirely unwooded, with fermentation and aging in concrete and glass demijohns, it's a floral, lacy, delicate red with subtle reduction and lip-smacking summer berry fruit"

Score: 93 (Tim Atkins) & 93 (Wine Advocate)
